If positive, a confirmation test will be performed automatically to determine if antibodies are from a current or past infection.

Who should test for syphilis?

Anyone who is sexually active is at risk for syphilis, so it's recommended to screen for this STD once a year, with or without syphilis. Syphilis is more common among certain demographics, including men who have sex with men and African Americans, so more frequent screening is advised for these groups.

What is the syphilis window period?

The window period for syphilis testing is 3 to 6 weeks. This is the time it takes for the body to develop detectable antibodies after exposure. Testing before the syphilis window period has passed can lead to inaccurate results.

What kind of sample is required?
