STD testing can also diagnose genital herpes infections. If STD test results are negative, a doctor can diagnose other causes of vaginal itching.

Treating an itchy vaginal area

When diagnosed early, STDs chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis can be cured with antibiotics without any lasting reproductive damage. Vaginal itching caused by genital herpes can be treated with antiviral medication. A doctor can prescribe medication to take care of other causes.
