Private, hospital-grade STD testing
When experiencing pain or burning, urination can be a very unpleasant experience. This symptom, common in both men and women, indicates an infection, including sexually transmitted diseases. Other conditions are responsible for this symptom, but due to the seriousness of STDs, it’s important to have STD tests administed to rule out these infections.
Several infections can cause burning during urination:
STD testing is one of the first steps in diagnosing this symptom. Trichomoniasis, chlamydia and gonorrhea testing is recommended when experiencing pain or burning while urinating. It’s important to seek STD testing promptly when symptoms appear, since these infections (particularly gonorrhea and chlamydia) can lead to infertility and complications when untreated. If negative, a doctor can diagnose other causes.
When caused by an STD, this burning sensation can be alleviated and cured with antibiotics. However, STD testing is required to determine proper treatment; despite similar symptoms, each STD associated with burning while urinating requires a different antibiotic. When caused by other infections, a doctor can prescribe alternate medication and treatment.
