Remember the good old days when a Chlamydia test was an act of patriotism? Me neither. But we found these great old-timey STD posters online and we had to share. So what can we learn from sexual health ads from the past?

  • Attractive people get STDs, too. These posters show some foxy ladies who you know had a positive STD test. (How do you know? The poster tells you.)
  • They’re easy to get. Skin-to-skin contact, baby. That’s all it takes. (For some STDs. Some require actual fluid swapping, but that’s still pretty easy.)
  • There’s only one way to know for sure. Some things never change. STD testing is still the only way to find out whether you’ve caught something.
  • Lightning can strike twice. Luckily, Chlamydia tests can strike twice too. And so can treatment.

A Chlamydia Test of Prowess

Interestingly, Chlamydia isn’t mentioned on these VD prevention posters. That can likely be attributed to the surge in Chlamydia prevalence in recent years. These days, a Chlamydia test is one of the most common STD tests on the market.

But back when our grandpas were worried about this stuff – never mind. That sentence is not something I think I want to follow through with.
