Default Chlamdyia Tests and Oral Infections

Hey everyone,

If my partner and I get a chlamydia test, will that tell us if we have any chlamydia infection of the mouth or throat?

No, a swab test is necessary in order to detect a chlamydia (or gonorrhea) infection of the mouth or throat, and we currently offer only urine-based chlamydia & gonorrhea testing which would only detect a genital infection. Since chlamydia can often go without symptoms, it would be smart to be tested for a genital infection either way, but I would suggest seeing your primary care physician or another doctor for a swab test if you are concerned about a possible throat or mouth infection.

Hope that helps & please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can help with.

Oral chlamydia isn't very common, but gonorrhea and a number of other STDs are an issue with oral sex. Which is why safe sex even with oral is important.

Also anal sex is a risk for most all STDs, including chlamydia and gonorrhea (and HIV). Anyone who's had receptive anal sex should let their health care provider know to see what testing they might recommend. As with oral infections, anal chlamydia is diagnosed with a swab sample taken from the anus.
