Gel that works against HIV helps with HSV, too

There's a post I saw somewhere on here the other day about a topical gel women can use that gives some protection against HIV ALSO helping reduce herpes infections. Wow, how cool would that be, to help out with both of these STDs. The HIV angle is getting most of the play but the fact it can protect against herpes is, to me, a big thing too.

Is this too good to be true?

This would be great if it ever comes to market, and is a method of risk reduction a woman can control (which is no small thing, especially in many areas of the world where HIV is epidemic). In the meantime, let me just stress that male latex condoms are highly, highly effective at preventing HIV transmission.
