I am a gay man and just tested positive for genital herpes. During anal sex, I assume the "bottom" position. Can I transmit the virus to my partner during anal sex, or only if he has contact with my penis?

It is possible to transmit the herpes virus to your partner even when receiving anal sex because genital herpes can be transmitted through any skin-to-skin contact in the genital area & outbreaks can occur all around the genital area, including the inner thighs and the anus. The best way to protect yourself & your partner is to use protection during any sexual contact. Daily suppressive therapies for genital herpes can also help to reduce the risk of transmission to your partner.
