AshleyMadison.com—an online dating site for married people seeking affairs—is a reminder that spouses cheat. It’s not a fun scenario to think about, but an all-too-common scenario. Ashley Madison just released some new research outlining characteristics of their dating pool—aka, cheaters. Their typical male cheater is:

  • Over 40
  • Has been married for at least 10 years
  • Has two kids over 10 years old

In terms of occupation, Ashley Madison users are most commonly in the IT/Engineer field, which comprised 10.6% men in their survey. Other popular industries included finance (8.2%), education (6.5%), doctors (4.6%) and lawyers (3.8%).

According to the site, the profile of a cheating wife consisted of a woman in her 30s, married five years or less, and had a daughter younger than three. These women were often in education, homemakers or workers in the medical field.

Keep in mind: While these characteristics don’t automatically define a cheater, a positive STD test may signal infidelity. Consider getting an STD test, even if you are in a monogamous relationship. Your husband or wife doesn’t have to know (especially when using a confidential service like getSTDtested), and it doesn’t mean that you don’t trust them; it’s just important to protect your health at all times and STD testing is ones of the ways to do that.
